Coolidge by Amity Schlaes. One of the most penetrating biographies of a US President in recent memory, that of the 30th President, Calvin Coolidge (1923-29). Shlaes utilizes turn of the century New England as the backdrop of Coolidges formative years and how the Progressive era of American politics formed his philosophical (and economical) foundations.
