I dunno, if you don't try different players then you'll never know, and that's a plus point for having friendlies. It's a win-win thing really, as the players (eg Andy Johnson) form is good then they deservedly win a call up, then if they play well everything's fine, if not then at least the national coach would have learned that the player in question is not up to international standard.
