Pretty sure when they started giving 5 year contracts instead of 3, they also included 3 year outs. Not sure if it a mutual option. Might be WWE had to exercise the option within a certain time or the out kicks in.
Might explain why even Adam Cole didnt know his contract was up sooner than he thought. That could certainly be something that got lost track of once Carrano waa fired.

Looks like Sami Zayn is set to expire this year, unless WWE extended it for when he was out.
Wade Barrett expires this month, so maybe he will be gone once the new reboot of NXT starts.
