Crytek, Crysis series developers, believe console game development is hurting and holding back PC game development but mainly in terms of graphics and performance.

"[The] PC is easily a generation ahead right now. With 360 and PS3, we believe the quality of the games beyond Crysis 2 and other CryEngine developments will be pretty much limited to what their creative expressions is, what the content is. You won't be able to squeeze more juice from these rocks."

The ironic part is how they are currently working on the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of their new game when they realized they could make more money by expanding outside of PC gaming. Also ironic is how they own Free Radical who specializes in console games and wouldn't make a future TimeSplitters game for the PC.
Its sort of similar to Epic Games where they love to make their engines but hate have to do a lot of work to customize or improve their engine for non-PC or Xbox 360 systems and games.
