So I had this idea in the 100,000 replies thread where we could do a weekly watch-a-long of a classic wrestling show. If enough people are into it and it picks up steam, I’d like to do multiple shows from different territories, ideally staying within the same timeframe for comparison sake.

I’m doing a “soft start” this week to ease into things and because I’ll be too busy this evening to set anything up. (and also because Gertner is excited as fuck for this and I can’t make him wait another week). Just gonna post the video. Next Thursday if we’ve got enough people interested I’d like to pick a time and do a synced up watch-a-long though I kinda wanna keep the chat in this thread for people who can’t make the live stream.

Anyway, let’s see how this goes. Enjoy our first show... From January 4th 1986... NWA World Championship Wrestling.

I’ve watched ahead. Avoiding spoilers. But Thunderfoot is fascinating to me. Didn’t remember him at all.

Thunderbolt and Billy Black wrestled on the first few Smokey Mountain shows in the tag tournament and wrestled a good amount in All Japan as "The Wild Bunch". They were really good!

I had a similar thread idea a while ago but I didn’t think it would be feasible due to my work hours. I should manage it when I’m off though.

All I can say is that if every wrestling show had jobbers like that one did then every wrestling show would be worth watching.
They were getting pelted all over the place.

The best thing about watching last night was that there were four grown ass men enjoying an episode of tv that they were either not born yet to see at the time, or too young to appreciate and yet we all popped for the same spots.

I started the show on the hour with just myself and rtd watching and I was very concerned that this was all a bust. Seanny’s puns and Gertner’s spur-of-the-moment expertise added a lot.

It does improve the experience.
