Yeah looks pretty gay. Don't see the point of turning megaman into an FPS.

Drakul 04-10-2013 04:55 AM

That's where the money is. It's as simple as that. I miss seeing things like Space Station Sillicon Valley, Skullmonkeys and Rakugakids. Now it's all FPS games and macho US marines either in the desert, in a post-apocolyptic world, in space or some combination of the three.
Even main characaters are the same bland repetiting formulas. White male between 25 and 35 with short black hair.

There is more brown and crap in modern games than in an overflowing sewage plant.

Ultra Mantis 04-10-2013 08:11 AM

I was under the impression that even some of the big FPS IPs aren't doing anything special in sales. It's all a futile attempt to tap into that rabid COD fanbase, which typically "only" plays COD.

A Megaman FPS would go over even worse than that XCOM one.

Turning into a shooter predates the success of the current CoD sales deal. It's done in part because they're relatively cheap and easy to make compared to other genres. Especially since there's toolkits specifically built for making them.

Ultra Mantis 04-10-2013 12:14 PM

AAA shooters have absolutely ridiculous budgets though, the latest Crysis, Halo, and Killzone are all up there as some of the most expensive games ever made and are heavily marketed. Do the shittier, extra brown shooters even have a chance to compete with that in the current market?

New Xbox To Have ‘Offline Abuse’ Feature

Games News: Microsoft say the new Xbox will feature a ‘virtual’ teenage boy screaming abuse at you, to make it feel like multiplayer gaming even if you have no internet connection.

http://www.thepoke.co.uk/wp-content/..._gamer_boy.jpg

As with the iPhone virtual personal assistant Siri, Microsoft say the next generation of Xbox consoles will come with a virtual companion you can play with offline – ‘Tony’ will be a 13-year-old boy who screams homophobic abuse at you while you play.

“Hearing other players while gaming is now an essential part of the Xbox experience,” said a spokesman for the company.

“Research shows that gamers play up to 80% more effectively if they are shrieked at by a furious teenage boy calling you a ‘fag’ or ‘cocksucker’ while playing. Now Tony will bring that technology to all games, even if you’re not connected to the web.”

Microsoft say the Xbox will come with Tony pre-installed and that further friends – including ‘Luke’ who repeatedly brags about sexual intercourse with your mother – will be available to download from the Xbox live Marketplace.

Well, yes, but you're talking about the online multiplayer portion of a game being always online, and I don't think anyone is objecting to that. Mostly because it would be ridiculous to expect online multiplayer to be offline.

Unfortunately, since EA's already trying to redefine SimCity as an MMO, we might get this defense for gaming as a whole as we see games with social services rebranded.

And I've probably said it before, but does anyone remember how Microsoft used to have terrible problems keeping their service up over the holidays? There was one year it was so bad they gave out a free game, but it wasn't even the only time it happened.

That is a sexy MGS collection, but I want Twin Snakes.

Emperor Smeat 04-22-2013 09:08 PM

Only way that happens is if a MGS set is ever made for the Wii U since Nintendo holds some rights to that game.

Iwata is now CEO of Nintendo of America as well. Not entirely sure what that means.

Kalyx triaD 04-24-2013 11:10 AM

wtf

#BROKEN Hasney 04-24-2013 01:00 PM

They moved the old CEO to Managing Director of NCL over in Japan. Some people are speculating he's either being groomed as Iwata's eventual replacement or on the other end of the spectrum, he's a competent bean counter.

I guess this is just Iwata taking responsibility for the botched Wii U launch and getting more hands on. He's said if Nintendo don't make a profit by this time 2014, he'll resign completely.

Kalyx triaD 04-24-2013 01:18 PM

He's too damn cool to be so hard on himself. Flat out apologizes for things I wouldn't even consider Nintendo's fault. Holds little web conferences that rivals E3 presentations and megaton reveals. But he talks like he himself allowed THQ to tank. Wish there was more like him.

Just as long as it doesn't mean more gimmicky controllers and consoles that can't handle their own updates.

Could also be due to their current restructuring and expansion plan they started late last year and supposed to last this whole year. The majority of it was for Japan but they did want to improve some stuff for the European branches.

I can see absolutely no way that that could possibly backfire and cause some kind of uproar when a company, inevitably, decides to put Alcatraz levels of DRM on their game. Nope, none whatsoever.

I think it all looks cool but I am a bit :nono: that everyone is absolutely pissing themselves with excitement about it because it's a PC thing. If it was revealed by Nintendo or Microsoft or Sony as a peripheral, or even a requirement, for their next system, everyone would be saying things like "WTF?! Who wants to wear thick goggles while they game? This is stupid!" and then, if they wheeled out that conveyor thing in the video, people would probably say "Wow, seriously? They honestly think people will wear those googles AND run around in an overgrown baby walker? Great, we can pay $300 and look like idiots in our living room. What a stupid, childish gimmick!:n:"

As I said, I personally think it looks cool. Not sure about the conveyor thing in terms of accessiblity to anyone who isn't in good shape but I think that's actually a different thing and not part of the VR goggles, right?
I can imagine someone using that thing and having a power cut. The belt under them stops moving but they keep going and just faceplant. Would be pretty bad getting those goggles driven into your eyesockets by the floor.

Drakul 04-27-2013 04:29 AM

Red Dwarf did both those things in the 80's. Sort of.

http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/features/a...d-dwarf-10.jpg

Extreme Angle 04-27-2013 06:44 AM

Yeah, two different peripherals. "Oculus" for VR, "Omni" for the treadmill. Then there's a third peripheral the "Razer Hydra" which looks like the PS Move but accurate to a single degree/mm.

I'd like to think i'd get the whole package then use it every day. But tbh it'll probably just sit there like every other motion game.

Gaming has always been a "lazy" getaway...

Occulus alone will be a success I think. Others will be for those guys who buy all the specialist shit.

Drakul 04-27-2013 07:05 AM

If they can make games more active and still not lose the "lazy" games, great. Playing an RPG and trekking across the map by actually walking would be great but they'd need to allow the traditional style too for the lazy/tired days. I could ptobably play more PC games with those things than I can with a keyboard and mouse. If it's not an RTS and it's on PC, I can never enjoy it.

I can't see why Kinect etc were all "childish gimmicks" for "casuals" and yet sticking a thick pair of goggles that look like a cross between a comedy snorkling mask and the Virtual Boy on your face is great.
I'm aware that saying Kinect wasn't up to much is an understatement but, before it even released, people deemed it a silly gimmick etc. This Oculus/Omni/Hydra is the exact same thing in that sense. It's a new "gimmick" that may or may not be put to good use but, because it's a PC thing, it seems to be considered a winner until proven otherwise.

I wouldn't worry too much. At this point, it sounds like the people who made up the "rumour" in the first place are running out of steam.

This was the life cycle of the PS3's "combating used sales" bullshit, too.

Sweet! UDK is kinda finicky at first and looks daunting, but after a few days of use it's easy.

Looking to use Unity for my next project, based on how little script you need to make a game with it.

There's 9 of us in the group. 2 Character Artists, 4 environment artists, an animator, UI guy and someone who knows Unreal Script.

I'm Environment lead making sure everything flows together, also did that whole area on the video, plus the entire level landscape.

I'll post up a vid when it's completed.

What're you studying at uni?
