Yeah it was brand new at 8pm.basically in 1999 Bischoff hot fired, Russo took over and ran it into the ground, Bischoff came back and tried to buy WCW. Actually had a deal done on January 11, 2001. They were going to take 3 months off for a reset and have the Big Bang PPV May 6th and do all their shows from the Hard Rock in Vegas instead of touring. Deal fell through cause they had negotiated a deal for 10 years to have the new WCW air on Wednesday on TBS and Ted Turner decided to get out of wrestling completely so he pulled back the Wednesday slot. In steps Vince to buy WCW and the rest is history.

Watched the "Bret Hart vs Tommy Magee" special on the Network. It was really nice.

I remember someone at school who ordered the PPV telling me Benoit was now the WCW Champ... and I don't think going into the PPV he was even booked for the title match so I was surprised. I was very excited to see Nitro that night and what could happen with a Benoit title run. I think when I got home and turned on my AT&T dial up I found that Benoit had left WCW and signed with WWE. I was more shocked about that than the title win.

Had they booked Benoit to be the champ 4 months before.... I dunno man, I'm very optimistic but if they had committed to that choice I could see things being different potentially.
