Athena who supposedly got hired recently by the WWE. Got trained by Booker T in his school. Probably won't show up until late September or early October since she has a few indie dates left.

Tropical storm Erika is currently brewing in the Caribbean and could have an impact on this weekend’s WWE live events in Florida as well as Monday’s RAW from Tampa, Florida. The storm is currently projected to peak on Monday with 75 mph winds hitting Sunshine State.

“There is growing concern that Erika will threaten Florida Sunday night into Monday,” according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

Meteorologists are expecting flash flooding and mudslides, which could have an impact on WWE RAW.
Could end up with another RAW from WWE HQ since a state of emergency was issued in Florida for the storm.

We noted before that it was rumored in Japan that women's wrestler Kana, who appeared at ringside for NXT "Takeover: Brooklyn" and was called Kanna, signed with WWE a few weeks back. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted today that Kanna indeed was signed two weeks ago.

This week's TNA Impact Wrestling on Destination America at 9pm EST drew 279,000 viewers. This is down from last week's 323,000 viewers. The midnight replay drew 83,000 viewers, up from last week's 73,000. TNA drew a total of 362,000 viewers this week, down from last week's total of 396,000.

Japanese wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger is expected to work more dates for WWE after making his debut for the company at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn this past weekend. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, an unnamed wrestling promoter attempted to book Liger for a few upcoming shows in the United States but was told WWE has already booked him for those dates.

On this week’s episode of NXT, Tyler Breeze said that he’s not done with Liger, another indication that we’ll be seeing him back in NXT soon.

It’s possible that Liger will be working for WWE & NXT with a deal similar to Samoa Joe’s, where he’s still able to wrestle for other promotions (mainly New Japan Pro Wrestling).

I don't want to see the Hardcore Title come back. I think things are fine as they are.

Mr. Nerfect 08-29-2015 12:25 AM

I agree with former writer Alex Greenfield when he says the WWE could use another roster split. There is such an overexposure of certain talent and too many guys trying to kick down the door at once. They're trying to tell me that Sheamus is going to be a main event presence whilst Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, Sting and John Cena have everything there on lock-down.

As I was watching the guys come out for the 8-Man Tag on RAW, I thought to myself "All of these people could totally be sent exclusively to SmackDown". All of them. The ladies could be split into two as well. The Bellas, Alicia Fox, Paige, Emma & Nattie could handle RAW, while the new girls, Lana, Summer Rae, Naomi and Tamina could do fine on SmackDown.

Evil Vito 08-29-2015 12:27 AM

<font color=goldenrod>A dedicated brand split is about the only way I'll ever watch SmackDown with any regularity again.</font>

Lock Jaw 08-29-2015 12:55 AM

Where is Gertner? Feel like right about now he should come in a denounce Emma's looks.

Mr. Nerfect 08-29-2015 12:59 AM

She looks "real." Not like a Barbie. She's "girl next door" and that sort of stuff is in. I have a feeling that Emma would have no problem acting like a real fucking whore for a TV gimmick either. Not saying they should do that, but Risque Emma could be money.

It just wouldn't work if the title did make a return but was renamed as the "WWE Extreme Rules Championship".

I don't get how Vince & Co. can't see that a roster split would make sense.

Vince has a main roster of around 90 people, yet he only focuses on around 15, so that's around 75 guys that are just left to pretty much go to waste. With a roster split, pretty much everyone would be in use and the company would have more main event names and so much more mid-card names, which would eventually become main event names. Also, we'd see the return of the "Draft specials" of Raw, which I always enjoyed.

Checking out the roster now, if I had to split them into brands:

Have the return of the World Heavyweight Championship and make it a SmackDown exclusive, along with the United States Championship.

The WWE Championship and Intercontinental Championships would be Raw exclusive.

The Tag Team Championship and Divas Championship wouldn't be branded so the holders of the championship can appear and defend on both brands, but to make it more interesting, when the holder loses it, they become exclusive to the brand of the person they lost it to. I think it could make some interesting storylines.

Also, make it a pyramid system, so that new talent begin at NXT, they then "graduate" to SmackDown, then from there, they graduate to Raw.

To me, I think all that would make things a whole lot better than what we have now.

But girls love butterflies and pinks and purples and sparkly diamonds.

Don't they?

#1-norm-fan 08-29-2015 09:33 AM

I think the roster split ended in large part due to the fact that no one was watching Smackdown anyway. So they started "Raw Supershow" to get eyes on the Smackdown talent and eventually they were like "Why the fuck do we even have a roster split at this point?"

So with Smackdown moving to USA, it could be a good time to bring it back. Just... keep one world title. Fucking hate the 2 title system. Have the guy with the title move between brands like when it first started and keep ONE champion who has a shitload of credibility instead of two interchangeable guys splitting it.

Cool King 08-29-2015 09:35 AM

I think the reason no one was watching SmackDown was because near the end of the roster split, SmackDown had become just a Raw recap show, with three or four SmackDown matches added between the recaps.

SmackDown was no longer it's own show at that point.

DAMN iNATOR 08-29-2015 09:37 AM

That may be true, @CK_But_NOT_Louis, but I think the NXT Women's Championship shows that you can design a women's division title belt that female fans and male alike can take seriously...which also looks to be either silver or platinum with pink/purple and diamonds.

IMO, the NXT Women's Championship looks well-designed, well thought out ahead of time and sensibly laid out, whereas to me the Divas belt doesn't look Iike it has any of those things going for it. Besides, does the Divas Championship actually have diamonds? Every time I've ever seen it, it hasn't appeared to...

#1-norm-fan 08-29-2015 09:37 AM

However, even if a new roster split were to happen... Booking would still be an issue.

#1-norm-fan 08-29-2015 09:39 AM

I'd be all for giving whoever the fuck is writing NXT half of the roster and letting him have Smackdown. I just don't think Vince would allow the free range for him to do what he wants. An hour on WWE Network is one thing. Valuable time on the USA Network...

Evil Vito 08-29-2015 09:44 AM

<font color=goldenrod>My ideal concept for a brand split (and one that I was going to do in my EWR game before I got too busy to play it as usual) would be that all the champions float. World, IC, US, Tag, Divas. All of them. Champs can show up wherever they want.

Realistically the champs would spend chunks of time on one show depending on who they're feuding with at the moment but it gives them flexibility to change things up as they see fit. You could have the World Champ end the feud with a Raw guy and then focus on a SmackDown guy. So while that is happening you have the IC/US title holders feuding with Raw guys. So basically every show has different title feuds going on.</font>

#1-norm-fan 08-29-2015 09:56 AM

I like the more "neat and tidy" idea of the IC championship as the "main title" on Smackdown and US championship as the "main title" on Raw. That never changes. If you're fighting for that title, you're trying to stake your claim as the "next in line" for the world title. It ALWAYS means something because those are the only titles that signify brand dominance. Plus it gives a meaning to both titles. I don't know exactly what holding either title is supposed to signify nowadays.

Other than that, the divas, tag and world titles all go back and forth between brands monthly because they all signify the best in the company in their respective divisions.

Mr. Nerfect 08-29-2015 05:02 PM

I can understand the principle behind having one World Champion, one set of Tag Champs, one Ladies' Champ, etc. That being said, I think the company finds it hard to toggle between meaningful programs for that champion on each show without stepping on the other's toes. If the split were definitive, then I'd go ahead and create my own champion on SmackDown via rassling tournament. I'd make Randy Orton the winner of that, defeating Bray Wyatt in the finals, but he only delays the inevitable, as Bray Wyatt is my central main event heel.

I'd remove Jerry Lawler from commentary, turning heel on Dolph Ziggler and costing him his tournament match. The WWE won't sanction a match between the two, so King and Zigs (reluctantly, since he's a good man now) build to an Empty Arena Match on a WWE Network special. Also agreeing to fight at the arena are Ric Flair and Rusev (doing a "too big for the B-show" super athlete gimmick) over Flair's issues with Rusev beating him down and calling Charlotte names during a rivalry she develops with Summer Rae.

* The Miz is drafted to SmackDown, but is not invited to compete in the tournament to crown a new champion. He complains about this and finds himself confronted by Damien Sandow -- giving the Sandow vs. Miz feud a chance to develop like it never really did. The Miz ends up reforming his alliance over another self-pitying star in R-Truth. Sandow brings his best friend, Curtis Axel, to the dance. I run Axel vs. R-Truth and Sandow vs. Miz at all my house shows, with them having one of the first tag team feuds of the new SmackDown era.

* I mentioned Charlotte vs. Summer Rae, but I think Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks would also benefit from being on SmackDown. You could space out matches between those girls quite easily. Eventually they get the Women's Championship to fight over.

* Eventually I move into a SmackDown Six style program between Cesaro & Ziggler, Owens & Rusev and Jack Swagger & Apollo Crews. There's so much history between Swagger and both Cesaro and Ziggler, as well as Swagger and Rusev. Swagger taking on Apollo Crews as a partner seems random (and it is), but Crews would bring a high energy level to Swagger's act; and a lot of his offense actually reminds me of Cesaro. Could you imagine the heat if Crews is pulling off Cesaro's shit on Dolph Ziggler, as Cesaro has to watch from the apron? Jeez.
