The problem is that the TV taped on 1/6 and 1/7 will air after the PPV, meaning they either give away title changes ahead of time, avoid using belts on champions for a few days at the tapings, or do a PPV where no belts change hands and no major storylines that have to be followed up on take place
It's even worse than I thought.

This went so well last time.

Emperor Smeat 01-01-2016 01:47 AM

Should just pull a page from NXT's book and either just not use those people or go with the no titles route.

Then again the same company recently thought it was a wise idea to give Matt Hardy the belt even though they knew full well it would ruin a portion of the pool of matches they taped months prior.

Dark One 01-01-2016 02:04 AM

It's just mind boggling how every time they're given "a new start," they immediately shit the bed.

The fact that this is a company that exists is a disservice to every decently run company in every industry in the history of the world.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 02:06 AM

Think they are just doing a live One Night Only PPV. Not sure of the theme for the show but probably won't have any titles on it if its a ONO PPV

Who is the biggest "threat" to WWE now? ROH, TNA or CHW?

Damian Rey 01-01-2016 04:35 PM

NXT.

There's no threat. Nobody is going to compete with WWE at this point. The financial advantage is too great. Wcw only hung in the fight because they had a ridiculous amount of money to work with.

TNA, ROH, etc doesn't have that. It's a one man show as far where the big leagues are.

GD 01-01-2016 04:40 PM

I made use of the WWE Network and went back to watch Bayley versus Sasha. Got very emotional towards the end.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 04:41 PM

I think its still TNA but its not as big of a threat as it had been 5 years ago. WWE is kind of attacking ROH because they know that that brand of wrestling is what NXT is trying to reach. ROH has alot of potential to take over TNA in that second spot but feel like they need to do bigger arenas that could at least fit 5000 people. TNA having a new start on a new channel again gives them a fresh start and I think they can do OK if they bring some fresh faces in and are creative. TNAs matches are pretty good most the time if the storylines could just line up they'd be OK I think.

ROH assuming the dirtsheets are correct about WWE using NXT as a proxy to fight them.

Supposedly its all due to an action figure of Kevin Steen/Owens that ROH managed to release before the WWE that started the "feud." WWE felt ROH was taking money away from them and supposedly have held a grudge since then.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 06:04 PM

Yep, WWE doesn't like that ROH does shows during WM in the same area. ROH has a lot more potential than TNA in my opinion. Ring of Honor has some great talent and if they could keep WWE from poaching a lot of them they could grow a lot. I think Sinclair is really behind ROH and are slowly building the company and themselves. TNA has been in a downward spin since leaving Spike with EC3 being their only glimmer of light. I hope they can get going on POP but don't think POP will get what they are expecting. Really don't see TNA reaching 1 million viewers anymore but I hope I'm wrong.

#1-norm-fan 01-01-2016 06:05 PM

In order for anyone to compete with WWE, WWE needs to get better and bring in a new boom period for wrestling as a whole. Right now the business just doesn't bring in new fans so it doesn't matter if a company comes in and does everything right because there just aren't enough people who care about wrestling. Obviously, having an assload of financial backing wouldn't hurt either.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 07:11 PM

Watching This is Impact. 1hour special that aired on POP today at 1. Had a good EC3 promo the rest is pretty much a yearly review.

WWE.com's Top 10 List of things they'd hope to see in 2016:

SPOILER: show
Quote:

10. Triple H wins the new Grand Slam by winning the U.S. Championship.

9. A Diva wins a male championship. (The staff suggested Sasha Banks winning The Intercontinental Championship)

8. A Superstar wins the Royal Rumble Match in his Rumble debut. (Some of the people mentioned by the staff are Kevin Owens, Neville, and Braun Strowman.)

7. Dean Ambrose breaks an Intercontinental Championship drought. (Ambrose WILL hold the Championship longer then 300 days, the first time that that was done since Honky Tonk Man's record breaking reign.)

6. A Hall of Fame Diva returns to the ring. (The three mentioned by the staff were Trish Stratus, Lita, and Alundra Blayze.)

5. The Undertaker competes in a Casket Match sometime in the year 2016.

4. A woman joins The Wyatt Family.

3. A WWE World Heavyweight Champion vs. NXT Champion match.

2. Roman Reigns teams up with The Rock. A tag team match with the two of them on one side will take place in 2016.

1. John Cena clinches his 16th World Championship.

http://www.wwe.com/inside/10-things-...to-see-in-2016

Can see everything except #8 and #9 happening. #5 and #7 are toss ups mostly because it requires the WWE to plan long term stuff.

Simple Fan 01-01-2016 10:48 PM

Sascha could join New Day and be a Tag Team champion or New Day could win a singles title and share it.

I don't see how they are already shitting the bed. If its simply because of the ONO PPV on the 8th I dont see that as a big deal. They had that date for a ONO anyway an nothing recorded so doing one live seems like a good idea. They'll probably do something along the lines of the Global X Cup or something that fits the ONO format but I don't see that as shitting the bed.

WWE has announced the second competitor in the 2016 Royal Rumble. The company revealed that Curtis Axel has joined Big Show in the thirty-man match. Axel still claims that he was never eliminated from last year’s Rumble match.

The company also noted in the five-point preview that more entrants will be announced on RAW.
Hell yeah, should have had him in the Raw segment last week.

Kinda rooting for Axel to find his niche. One of the best themes. If Sandow couldn't do it through a comedic route I don't see Axel doing it though.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-02-2016 11:58 AM

Should just do what was going to do before AxelMania: go down to NXT full time. He has been in the past training buddies of the Rock and Brock Lesnar. So, he's not going anywhere as long as Brock is around.

On one hand, that's pretty entertaining.

On the other, that's precisely the problem that lead to not having enough "star power" right now. After what seemed like a surefire start in his re-christening at the hands of Paul Heyman, he was relegated to comedy status and jobber meatshield within, what, like 3-4 weeks? Imagine for one second that Lesnar's debut was booked similarly... where he came in and 2x powerbombed people like he did at first, but only for like two weeks, then proceeded to lose every match and do shit to look dumb and weak just to prevent people from attacking Paul Heyman. He would have gotten nowhere near top draw potential, and would be mentioned in the company of guys like Heidenreich or Nathan Jones today. Axel is almost in the same boat as Cesaro... except that Henning* has a boat with more holes and a smaller bucket and less TV time in which to bail it out.

Even a (regular) stint in NXT would help him out. Book him to be a legitimate threat. Say he's focused. Give him televised victories to help get his stock up. That part of the "getting people over" equation should not be so hard, but WWE makes it like it is impossible.

Simple Fan 01-02-2016 04:38 PM

Love all the Axel talk. I think it would be pretty cool to have Axel enter the Rumble at #30 and about 5 guys left. Axel last to the last 2 and who ever WWE wants to win the Rumble gets shoved under the ropes to the outside and Axel starts a 10 count with the fans and thinks he's won the RR by countout so he starts to celebrate while the other guy get back in and dumps him over the ropes to win. Gives Axel another gripe with the RR match and also goes back to when he debuted and was beating people by countout(HHH and John Cen).

Savio 01-02-2016 04:43 PM

I'd like the WWE to specifically state "If you do not enter the ring before the next entrant you will be disqualified."

Triple H hates google

Quote:

While the arrest angles are quite similar, there is one major difference. WWE released a mug shot of Vince (through social media, and it was shown during Raw), but not of Stephanie. Kevin Eck, who was on WWE's creative team at the time, explains in his latest column why there was no mug shot of her.
While tossing around ideas for the angle in a creative meeting, Eck suggested that a mug shot-style photo be taken of Stephanie and shown on television. Triple H, however, hated the idea.
Eck wrote, "Vince loved it. In fact, I think I may have gotten one of his "that's good thinking" figurative pats on the back. However, when the creative team ran the angle by Triple H, he didn't care for any of it, and he especially hated the mug shot idea."
"His reasoning was that the faux mug shot of his wife would exist forever in cyberspace, and therefore if someone did a Google search on Stephanie and the photo popped up, people might think she had actually been arrested, which could be detrimental to her career as WWE's Chief Brand Officer."
Eck noted that Triple H stated his case to Vince, who nixed the proposal.

This means New Beginning plans were likely already made, which would have to be radically adjusted now.

Also James Storm's WWE-NXT contract recently ended and is going back to TNA.

The story goes is that the four went to Gedo, the current booker of NJPW, at this morning’s WrestleKingdom 10 event and said that they would be finishing up. It’s not known when any of these four will start with WWE, but it was said that Nakamura would not be leaving quickly. He is currently the IWGP Intercontinental champion, and it’s said to be a scenario opposite of current WWE U.S. Champion Alberto del Rio where he’ll most likely drop the title before leaving.

Anderson was also apparently close to coming to TNA, but the story goes is that once the WWE deal came, things changed.

In terms of contract situations, New Japan has a one year contract system that usually expires in January, so them giving notice coincides with that. Styles did not have a New Japan contract.

Nakamura, Anderson and Gallows are all expected to honor their Ring of Honor dates next month in Las Vegas. Dave also reported that AJ Styles was likely done with Ring of Honor going forward.

Nakamura likely won't show up till after Mania because of NXT's upcoming taping schedule and he's probably dropping the belt by March/April. AJ Styles has the best shot of showing up during the next set of tapings out of the group.

As for Nakamura , it comes down to his ability to learn or speak English. If he can't, he's at least as big as Tajiri. If he can, we could be looking at worst a guy who is the biggest Japanese star to hit America since Muta, possibly Rikodozan. Or we may be in uncharted territory. The guy is too charismatic to NOT get over.

Emperor Smeat 01-05-2016 03:02 AM

Update from PWI regarding the talent raid by the WWE. Confirmed those wrestlers are now free agents but none of their sources within the WWE states they have been officially signed yet by the company.

Out of the group, NJPW seems to only be interested in keeping Nakamura if possible while AJ Styles is gone and isn't resigning with them nor ROH. Gallows likely is gone as well from NJPW and Anderson likely gone once his deal ends later this month. Both guys do have a few ROH dates left so they could just stay in ROH before moving elsewhere.

The WWE signing part is one of the versions of the story that are making the rounds but to be clear, no sources within WWE have been able to confirm that, as of this evening, there have been any signings of any of these talents.

In the case of AJ Styles, he was not under a New Japan contract. Styles is obviously in demand and there is obviously interest in him from just about every promotion, but according to several sources, he has not signed anything with anyone. Within the last week or two, ROH had removed posters featuring AJ Styles for upcoming events and replaced them with new posters sans Styles. It is believed he finished up with ROH at Final Battle.

The two other big names bandied about are The Bullet Club's Karl Anderson and Doc/Luke Gallows. In the case of Gallows, he was not under New Japan contract. Anderson's deal expires towards the end of the month. It is believed that their departure is more to clear the deck in case there is interest elsewhere for them, but they have not signed anything. They are still being advertised for future ROH dates.

The final name being discussed is the current IWGP Intercontinental champion Shinsuke Nakamura. In Nakamura's case, the belief is that while he has expressed interest in seeing what his future might hold outside NJPW, that discussions between he and New Japan may not have completed and what his final decision may be remains up in the air. We have heard stories going back a year that WWE officials, after seeing him on a tape of the 2015 WrestleKingdom PPV, had expressed interest in him. The idea that Nakamura was signed by WWE already just isn't feasible given the visas and other paperwork required for WWE to hire him, but it's within the realm of possibility to be sure. It's just as possible Nakamura and New Japan will come to terms on a new deal. For Nakamura, nothing is set in stone.

There were a number of people in and around New Japan, including some of the principals involved, who were very angry the story leaked before talents had finished up their dates, specifically since the business is so well protected by those in Japan.

Honestly hope Nakamura stays in NJPW. They need him, and while it would be nice to see him on NXT, I have no faith in the WWE to use him properly on the main roster.

Heisenberg 01-05-2016 10:17 AM

just as long as AJ Styles comes. That will bring me back full time to RAW. He seems to be a better fit for NXT, but he's earned enough respect to shoot to the main roster and save us.

His promo is a little off, but he uses the word "piss" so it negates all the bad things

Wrestling showerthought: It'd be cool if Kalisto won the US title from ADR, re-christened it as the WWE World Cruiserweight Championship (sick looking new belt and all), and brought a cruiserweight open challenge to RAW every week.

Heisenberg 01-05-2016 02:51 PM

Everytime they show Kalisto I imagine Rey Mysterio chucking a remote through the TV and yearning for the roar of the crowd. Never felt that way with Sin Cara. The new Sin Cara is better, but I didn't get the idea that Rey was jelly of him.

If it's all true it's a big hit to NJPW. Still don't know if WWE would use any of them on the main roster if they do sign.

Kind of peeved they didn't sign James Storm.

Fignuts 01-05-2016 03:04 PM

More than "kind of" actually.

Heisenberg 01-05-2016 03:06 PM

Nakamura better have time traveling capabilities or else he won't make it in the US

Though not a member of the Bullet Club, Nakamura remains one of the most popular wrestlers outside of WWE. Displaying a flamboyant charisma comparable to Freddie Mercury, but possessing the brutal strikes of an elite fighter, Nakamura roomed with Daniel Bryan years ago in California when both were early into their sports-entertainment careers. During media tours for last year’s WrestleMania, Bryan even revealed he once proposed an inter-promotional match against Nakamura to WWE management.

<font color=goldenrod>I don't remember WWE ever acknowledging rumors like that before, which suggests there's gotta be some merit to it.

Will be cool to see what WWE does with them.</font>

Going to straight shit myself if AJ Styles goes to WWE

Sepholio 01-05-2016 09:13 PM

Yeah AJ to WWE would make me go boom boom in my trousers as well kind sir.

Dark One 01-05-2016 10:53 PM

There's a part of me that is going to be watching the Rumble waiting, hoping, praying for some kind of crazy surprise possibly involving one of them.

And then I will be severely disappointed when the only surprise entrant is the Boogeyman.
